It’s a sad day. We got news last night that Owens, Inc has shut down operations and officially closed.

Owens, Inc started out in 1974 manufacturing doors and later expanded into unfinished engineered hardwood flooring. The closure, due to the lack of credit available to them, and slumping sales, has forced them to lay off about 150 employees in their Shawano, WI plant and close down completely.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with the team at Owens Flooring for the last decade, and had a few conversations with Mr Owens himself. (Yes, there is a Mr Owens.) We wish them best of the luck with all their future endeavors.

The company, and the mill will be put up for sale in the new year, and we hope the future owners continue to make the quality products, using the quality people that made Owens Flooring great.
